Imagine is a performing arts gala and charity event where live music, dance and visual arts come together to create a community that encourages integration of diverse backgrounds and forms of expressions with a purpose.

Wonderful artwork will be on display for a silent auction. Bring some cash and take home a piece of art that you love!

Your participation and donations will help to build the primary school, Hosanna Gardens  Academy in Mikameni, Kenya. You can find out more about the school here.

Come and be entertained by their gifted international artists which will include a tango display by local tango dancers!

Here is a message I received from the event organiser and tango aficianado Gabbie Koak:

"When I first heard about the story of two Priests who desperately needed funds to finish the construction of a school for the children in the poorest area in Kenya. It reminded me about my childhood when my school was sponsored for a school trip to the city, Seoul.

It was one of the most exciting event ever to have happened to me at that time. I can clearly remember feeling so excited because it was my very first trip to the city. I can never forget the feeling of awe seeing how big, different and incredible the city looked through my eyes.

I now understand the kind heart who donated the money to my school which made the school trip happened. I will never know who they are but their act of kindness and generosity had greatly impacted my life.

I realize that I have received so much from kind people knowingly unknowingly.

I have been having this desire to give back and I feel that now is the time for me to pay back in anyway I can. So I searched around and came across these two Priests whom have been praying for a long time to finish the school project. When I heard that the Priest who is currently working in Kenya right now is visually impaired, I was incredibly touched and moved by their story hence I have decided to help them.

Education is the best tool you can have in life. And a precious gift you can give to those who are in need.

My Mom can’t read and write because she had to work in the fields since she was young. Unfortunately, she never had the opportunity to learn and have an education. She still asks the bus drivers where the destination of the bus is.

I don’t know how we are going to reach the goal, however I believe in miracles and the power of love.

Please feel free to join me on this meaningful journey.

With all my love, Gabbie"

Cecilia Gonzalez Workshops in Sydney - August 16 - 18, 2019

cecilia gonzalez tango sydney
So excited that Cecilia will soon be back in Sydney! A big thank you to Pablito for hosting Cecilia's Sydney tour.

Over the years that I have been dancing tango I have taken many classes (group and private) with Cecilia and  have always found her instruction particularly useful, inspiring and enjoyable.

About Cecilia
Cecilia González is an exquisite dancer who, since 1995, has worked with some of the most renowned Argentinean dancers of her generation, such as Fabian Salas, Chicho Frumboli, Julio Balmaceda, to name a few. Due to her extensive teaching experience she is known as a 'Teacher of Teachers'!

Cecilia's dancing is characterised by her technical precision, the fluidity and elegance of her movements, and a remarkable capacity to improvise.

Cecilia effortlessly shares her extensive knowledge and passion with her students. She is regularly invited to international Argentine tango festivals and teaches workshops around the world. Cecilia also frequently gives workshops alone, as she both leads and follows in her teaching.

Here's what tango organisers / teachers  in Denmark has to say about why you should learn with Cecilia...

"In the time when tango became an important part of my life, I searched for a role-model, a female dancer I could learn from. I was watching numerous videos on the internet and was so lucky to stumble over one that immediately caught my eye. A performance with Fabian Salas and. Cecilia Gonzalez. Her way of dancing intrigued me and she was the one I wanted to learn from. I met Cecilia the first time in Buenos Aires and took privates with her. My finding was, that Cecilia is not only a great dancer, but as well a wonderful person, radiating warmth and joyfulness. We immediately became friends and during the next years she became my and Hany’s tutor in all tango aspects.

What intrigues me the most with Cecilia’s dance style are her long lines, the flow and subtlety of her movements, not disturbing the music with too many adornos, which makes her dance clear and aesthetic. I would consider her a very “classical” dancer and that is exactly what I aim for myself."

"Bryndis asked me to take classes together with Cecilia, as she had decided that Cecilia was the one she wanted to learn from. I happily agreed to this idea and so we had our first class in Palermo, a wonderful part of BA. Cecilia is a very nice and gentle person, in her teaching she is very exact and demanding. I appreciated her forwardness and bluntness even though it was quite hard for my ego. Cecilia gave me through the years a great understanding of the dance, inspired me to listen more to my body than my brain and being more daring in my improvisation. Always with the notion that my partner is nr. 1, 2 and 3.

Today I appreciate being Cecilia’s friend and enjoy a great deal to dance with her, as it is great joy and fun to do so. I am looking very much forward for her coming to Copenhagen."

Premiering in Sydney, TANGO POEMA brings together world renowned tango dancers, Diana Cruz and Nick Jones and leading tango orchestra Mendoza Tango Quintet (Brisbane) to perform a night of elegant, intricate and sassy tango – through music and dance.

Diana Cruz and Nick Jones have made a name for themselves internationally through their unique and modern take on Tango. While respecting the traditions of the dance, Nick and Diana add their own flair to Tango, showcasing their respective multidisciplinary art forms, and giving them an edge on the traditional dance.

Mendoza Tango Quintet is one of Australia’s most loved Tango orchestras. Led by bandoneonist Stephen Cuttriss, the group are a favourite of dancers and music lovers around Australia, due to Stephen’s personalised arrangements of some of the greatest pieces, and the calibre of musicians who make up the group. Buenos Aires born singer Solange Lipchin adds the poetic and lyrical dimension to the pieces.

Mendoza Tango Quintet will weave their way through the nostalgic stories and widely varied sounds of the genre, with Nick and Diana performing their own interpretation of certain pieces. This collaboration will reveal the magic of the Tango, showing the importance of the connection and passion through music, dance and storytelling.

Following the show, the venue will transform from theatre to dance floor, inviting tango dancers to experience social dancing, in a setting otherwise known as a Milonga. A fascinating spectacle for all to watch and enjoy and learn the etiquette of a Milonga.

Come and experience the poetic beauty of Tango with us.
