"Between stimulus and response, there is space.
In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
(Victor E. Frankl)
Sharing this quote from renowned psychologist Victor Frankl, used in a psychological context, and now supported by the findings of research into neuroscience.
This wisdom also relates to the context of dancing tango:
We can choose how to react in tango.
This has applications not only to the quality of our tango dancing but also to the intrinsic benefits of dancing tango.
In all aspects of our tango experience we have the choice to react to the response of the music, our partner, and others on the dance floor in the way we choose. I know of no other partner dance that provides such potentiality and so many choices of response. This may explain why tango has been scientifically proven to be cognitive and emotionally enhancing.
The better our technique and mastery of the dance, and understanding of the music - the greater range of choices we have, and the better we are able to respond to all the stimuli that encompass tango.
Therein lies our growth and freedom as a tango dancer and human being!
