Beware of complex sequences!

Read this quote today...

"If we dance Tango as a series of learned sequences,

our entire brain is tied up with a shopping list.

No room for the music or our partners."

(David Turner)

How true it is!

Tango as a social dance is an improvised dance which is all about connection with your partner and the music. If you are too focused on the moves there is no room for the other. And really then what is the point of the dance?!

Leaders, learning complicated, for example, ' 24 step' combinations discourages connection with your partner, the music and good navigation skills. Learn simple moves and figures of 4 to a maximum of 8 counts, and learn how to paste these to other moves, to retrace them, and pause within the moves.

This is the key to improvisation and truly connecting with your partner, the music and others on the floor. That (in addition to a beautiful embrace) will make your tango magical!
