Sharing this blog post What I Learnt from a Ballet Teacher

Written by a tango teacher, the post is really more about what a ballet teacher learnt about dance from learning tango, and how she was able to enhance her own ballet dancing as a result.

An excerpt:

'It happening like this: At one point I was reminding her that I could tell that she was not listening to the music but relying too much on me. She responded:

"All theses years I have put the music in the far background because of the extreme concentration needed for the choreography in ballet, and musicals."

Please don't misunderstand me. I value great teachers of graceful movement, but I no longer feel they are primarily dance teachers. It is up to us to take these graceful forms and let our bodies apply these movements as a response to the music as it fill our very being. In the end teaching Jenny was not about tango, but a reintroduction to what she felt as a little girl and that she just had to move to the music. This is dance!'
