Tango at the Foundry tonight

"Seductive, sultry tango with cool jazz solos with a touch of Brazilian, Alturas perform some of their most popular pieces along with a sneak preview of their new repertoire currently being recorded.

The Sydney-based quintet released their debut CD last year to enthusiastic audiences, receiving regular airplay on ABC Radio National and ABC Classic FM. This stunning ensemble play heart-wrenching, passionate music inspired by tango and the music of Latin America. The unique blend of instruments allows combinations of flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin,bandoneon, piano and double bass.

Alturas have developed an exciting new repertoire, which takes them further away from traditional tangos, exploring pieces by Piazzolla, Ziegler, Egozcue, Pixinguinha and other Argentinean composers as well as some original tangos by Jane Andino and Greg Gibson."
