Argentine tango is growing more and more popular in Sydney as a wedding dance, because it's the ultimate partner dance - the most romantic and connected dance in the world! It's certainly a real audience pleaser with its inherent romance and drama.
In my role as a tango teacher I have prepared many couples for their wedding dances and absolutely love this part of my work! One of the couples that I recently recently enjoyed teaching are Marlen and Adrian, who originate from Germany and now settled at Maroubra Beach in Sydney.
Marlen and Adrian
In preparation for their wedding last March I instructed this lovely couple, through a series of private lessons, in the essential technique and moves of the dance and helped them to develop a choreography to the song of their choice. I was particularly impressed by their energy and enthusiasm in their lessons and how they committed to practice in between the lessons. Their efforts certainly paid off for them - they and their wedding guests were very happy with the end result!
When Paul and I were recently invited to perform at the GEM Bridal Expo (and were unavailable for that night) the first people I thought of as our replacement were Marlen and Adrian, and I was delighted when they agreed to take the gig!
Last Wednesday Marlen and Adrian performed their wedding dance at the the Seargent's Mess Hall in Chowder Bay, the Expos' picturesque location on the north shore of Sydney. I knew they would do So Tango proud, and that they did!
Special Wedding Package Offer
A special wedding package rate was offered to Expo attendees. I would like to extend this offer to newsletter subscribers (and their friends and family).
Here's the offer: 6 private tango lessons and a pre-wedding consultation for $240 per person. This would normally cost $325 per person. Couples save $170 in total.
All lessons are with Sophia. These are normally held at her studio in the eastern suburbs in Kingsford.
To receive this offer make sure to mention 'The Gem Event' when booking.
FIrst Lesson and Pre Wedding Consultation
You need to allow 1.5 hours for your first lesson which will consist of 30 minutes for the pre-wedding consultation and one hour structured lesson.
At the pre-wedding consultation Sophia will:
Develop with you a lesson schedule and training plan
Give you a basic overview of the Argentine Tango and her approach to wedding choreography
Discuss with you aspects that will influence the wedding choreography, such as:
the mood that you wish to convey, e.g., romantic, playful, old world charm, funky...
your song preferences (and recommend some songs if you like)
venue logistics such as size, dimension and surface of dance floor,
wedding attire and shoes.
Preparation time:
I normally advise couples that minimum preparation time frame is 2 months. 3 months is preferred. If you wedding is in February or March allow extra time due to the Christmas / summer holidays.
Give the Gift of Tango
So you're one of the wedding guests and you don't know what to get the bride and groom as their wedding gift... why not give them the gift of tango.
A series of tango lessons leading up to the wedding would be a beautiful and memorable gift. Gift certificates can be arranged.
As tango is known as the dance of passion and romance, you couldn't pick a more perfect wedding gift. You will certainly help them to remember their special day forever!
