Who loves Opera? 

Like Argentine Tango, Opera is one of the world's most beautiful and popular expressions of human passion and emotion. 

The reason I'm mentioning this is that I've been offered some extra tickets to the 2014 Finals Concert of the IFAC Australian Singing Competition at the Sydney Conservatorium - on this Saturday evening August 30. 

Five Finalists compete in the finals of this year's Competition, accompanied by the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra (AOBO) under the baton of guest conductor Johannes Fritzsch. At stake is over $180,000 in prizes and career opportunities. 

You can expect some wonderful performances from composers - Bellini, Bernstein, Charpentier, Donizetti, Handel, Mozart, Verdi... and Richard Strauss.

In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Richard Strauss, a special pre-concert talk will be given by maestro Johannes Fritzsch at 6:00pm. Special performances in honour of Strauss will be given as part of the Finals Concert.
