There is some debate about whether rectangular or square floors are better. Square floors are favoured by some because they are felt to be more conducive to cabeceo. Others prefer rectangular floors because it gives more room for straight walking.
Some people like milongas with high ceilings like the salon in Region Leonesa (as shown in photo), others prefer cosier settings like El Beso Milonga.
